Hot rolled
Hot-rolled flat products of other alloy steel, width under 600 mm
HSN 7226 99 51 (hot-rolled flat-rolled products of other alloy steel, width less than 600 mm) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order under the Steel and Steel Products QCO 2024. Conformity to the Indian Standard mapped in Schedule 1 of the controlling Quality Control Order is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 29 August 2024, by virtue of S.O. 3716(E). Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.
Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Directorate General of Foreign Trade.

The single most common error on this tariff line is assuming the Steel and Steel Products QCO 2024 applies only to mainstream flat-rolled products and not to narrow-width other-alloy-steel strip. Because the specific Indian Standard is identified by Schedule 1 of S.O. 3716(E) rather than appearing on the bill of entry face value, importers who skip the Schedule 1 lookup arrive at port with a CM/L licence covering a different IS number — triggering consignment detention, demurrage accrual, and a mandatory TCQCO portal clarification cycle that can extend clearance by weeks.
