Grain-oriented
Grain-oriented flat-rolled silicon electrical steel, width 600 mm or more
HSN 7225 11 00 (grain-oriented flat-rolled products of other alloy steel) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to the Indian Standard mapped in Schedule 1 of the Steel and Steel Products Quality Control Order, 2024 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 29 August 2024, by virtue of S.O. 3716(E). Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, and policy conditions governing import of electrical sheets (CRNO), apply as separate customs-clearance overlays.
Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Directorate General of Foreign Trade.

The single most common error on this tariff line is importing grain-oriented electrical steel under a CM/L licence whose scheduled product scope does not specifically cover grain-oriented grades — a scope-mismatch that customs detects through real-time BIS register verification at port, triggering detention even where the consignment bears the ISI mark. Sub-standard or defective material that does not conform to the specified standard must be disposed of as scrap under Section 17(1)(b) of the BIS Act, 2016; re-export is not automatic and confiscation proceedings apply. Verify the licensed product description in the CM/L against the grain-oriented specification before the purchase order, not at the port of arrival.
