The most common error on this tariff line is treating both IS 814:2004 and IS 6419:1996 as interchangeable when verifying the supplier's CM/L licence scope. Each standard covers a distinct wire application — IS 814 for manual metal arc welding feedstock and IS 6419 for gas-shielded arc welding — and a CM/L licence granted against one does not authorise supply of the other. Importers who fail to match the specific IS and product scope on the CM/L to the actual wire type in the consignment face detention regardless of the presence of a valid SIMS registration.
