The most common error on this tariff line is failing to verify whether the specific serial number entry in Schedule 1 of S.O. 3716(E) covering chromium-type stainless steel circular bars has been operationally deferred under S.O. 5134(E) dated 20-11-2025, which suspended enforcement of specified serial numbers for periods of one or three years. An importer who proceeds on the assumption that the QCO is in full force — without confirming the deferral status of the precise Schedule 1 entry — risks either unnecessary compliance spend or, conversely, citing a suspended entry as a BIS-clearance basis while the substantive obligation remains live under a parallel entry.
