The most consequential oversight on this tariff line is failing to track the temporary exemption status for IS 6911, IS 5522, and IS 15997. The Ministry of Steel order dated 20-11-2025 grants a time-bound exemption from mandatory BIS certification for these three stainless-steel flat-product standards until 31 March 2026 — but importers who rely on this exemption without documentary proof, or who continue importing under the exemption after its expiry without a current CM/L, face detention, confiscation of non-conforming material as scrap under Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016, and potential monetary penalty.
