Cold-formed angles, shapes and sections from flat-rolled steel
HSN 7216 61 00 (angles, shapes and sections of iron or non-alloy steel obtained from flat-rolled products) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to the Indian Standard mapped in Schedule 1 of the Steel and Steel Products Quality Control Order, 2024 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 29 August 2024, notified vide S.O. 3716(E). Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

The most common failure on this tariff line is proceeding to import on the assumption that the S.O. 5134(E) deferral list suspends all BIS QCO obligations under S.O. 3716(E). The deferral applies only to the specific IS serial numbers enumerated in S.O. 5134(E); all other Schedule 1 entries remain operative from 29 August 2024. Importers who rely on a blanket deferral reading face consignment detention under Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016 and potential disposal of the non-conforming product as scrap.
