The most common error on this tariff line is relying on a CM/L licence whose scope does not cover the specific deformation geometry — notches, ribs, or grooves — or the precise dimensional range of the consignment. The Steel and Steel Products QCO 2024 mandates that the standard mark must correspond to the exact Schedule 1 specification; a CM/L that covers plain rod but not deformed rod, or covers a different cross-section class, leaves the consignment unmarked and subject to detention and mandatory disposal as scrap under Section 17(1)(b) of the BIS Act, 2016. Confirm the deformation specification and dimension range in the supplier's CM/L scope before issuance of the purchase order.
