Flat-rolled boiler-quality steel strip of width less than 600 mm
HSN 7211 90 11 (flat-rolled boiler-quality steel strip, width less than 600 mm, not clad, plated or coated) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order under the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024. Conformity to the Indian Standard mapped in Schedule 1 of the controlling Quality Control Order is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme by virtue of S.O. 3716(E). Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.
Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Directorate General of Foreign Trade.

The most common error on this tariff line is failing to identify the precise Indian Standard applicable to boiler-quality strip in Schedule 1 of S.O. 3716(E) before shipment. Because the structured IS number is not pre-populated in the tariff record, importers either assume any CM/L-licensed steel supplier will suffice or rely on a general steel-grade certificate that does not map to the boiler-quality specification — both failures expose the consignment to detention at port and mandatory TCQCO-portal referral under the Ministry of Steel circular. Confirm the Schedule 1 IS mapping directly with BIS or a licensed third-party lab before the purchase order is placed, not at the bill-of-entry stage.
