The single most common error on this tariff line is failing to cross-check the specific Schedule 1 serial number against the deferral list under S.O. 5134(E) before the purchase order is placed. Importers either proceed on the assumption that all Steel and Steel Products QCO entries are operative — attracting detention at port on an uncertified consignment — or, conversely, assume a deferral applies to their specific entry when it does not. Confirm the operative status of the exact Schedule 1 entry for this cold-rolled product before committing to a supplier without a CM/L licence.
