Lacquered flat-rolled iron or non-alloy steel, width 600 mm or more
HSN 7210 90 10 (lacquered flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, width 600 mm or more) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to the Indian Standard mapped in Schedule 1 of the Steel and Steel Products Quality Control Order, 2024 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 29 August 2024, by virtue of S.O. 3716(E). Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

The most frequent error on this tariff line is assuming that any generic steel CM/L held by the foreign supplier covers lacquered flat-rolled product. The BIS licence must map specifically to the Indian Standard listed against HSN 7210 90 10 in Schedule 1 of S.O. 3716(E); a CM/L for an adjacent coated-steel standard does not satisfy the QCO requirement. Sub-standard or defective material that clears port on a mismatched licence must be disposed of as scrap under Section 17(1)(b) of the BIS Act, 2016 — it cannot be re-exported as usable product.
