The most common error on this tariff line is assuming that a CM/L licence held for one coated-steel product category — say, zinc-coated or galvanised strip — automatically covers all sub-categories within HSN 7210 49 90. The Steel and Steel Products Quality Control Order, 2024 maps distinct Indian Standards to distinct product categories in Schedule 1; a licence against the wrong IS leaves the consignment uncovered, triggering detention and mandatory TCQCO-portal clearance under the Ministry of Steel circular dated 20-10-2023. Verify the exact IS mapping for the coating type and product category before shipment, not at the port.
