HSN 7209 27 30 (cold-rolled flat-rolled iron or non-alloy steel strip of 0.5 mm to 1 mm thickness) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to the Indian Standard mapped in Schedule 1 of the Steel and Steel Products Quality Control Order, 2024 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 29 August 2024, by virtue of S.O. 3716(E). Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

The single most common error on this tariff line is overlooking the deferral amendment under S.O. 5134(E) dated 20-11-2025, which suspended enforcement of specified serial numbers in Schedule 1 for three years from the date of gazette publication. An importer who verifies only the headline enforcement date of 29 August 2024 may be demanding ISI-marked product on a serial number whose enforcement has been deferred — or, conversely, may be allowing in unmarked product on a serial number not covered by the deferral. Confirm which Schedule 1 serial number maps to this HSN's specific IS title and whether it appears in the S.O. 5134(E) deferral list before finalising the purchase order.
