Hot-rolled flat products of iron or non-alloy steel, width 600 mm or more
HSN 7208 90 00 (other hot-rolled flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel of width 600 mm or more, not clad, plated or coated) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to the Indian Standards mapped in Schedule 1 of the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 29 August 2024 per S.O. 3716(E). Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

- 2Ensure every coil, sheet, or plate bears the ISI mark and the supplier's CM/L number traceable to the licensed manufacturing facility. The most common error on this tariff line is treating the S.O. 5134(E) Schedule 1 deferral list as a blanket suspension of the Steel and Steel Products QCO. That notification defers enforcement only for specific serial numbers enumerated therein for three years; all other IS entries in Schedule 1 remain operative. Importers who assume the deferral covers their product variant, proceed without a CM/L-licensed supplier, and arrive at port face consignment detention and mandatory TCQCO portal scrutiny — neither the SIMS registration nor a clean bill of entry substitutes for a current BIS licence against the correct standard.
