Hot-rolled steel plates, 4.75 mm to 10 mm thick, not in coils
HSN 7208 52 10 (hot-rolled flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, 4.75 mm to 10 mm thick, not in coils) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to IS 2062 and IS 1079 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme by virtue of the Steel and Steel Products Quality Control Order, 2024 notified vide S.O. 3716(E) dated 29-08-2024. Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

The most common and costly error on this tariff line is assuming that the S.O. 5134(E) dated 20-11-2025 deferral — which suspends enforcement for specified serial numbers in Schedule 1 for three years from gazette publication — applies to IS 2062 and IS 1079 entries covering this CTI. Importers must verify whether the serial numbers mapped to their specific grade and CTI in Schedule 1 are among those enumerated in S.O. 5134(E); if they are not, full ISI Mark Scheme compliance remains operative and consignments without a valid CM/L-backed test certificate face detention at port.
