The most common error on this tariff line is failing to reconcile the two applicable Indian Standards — IS 1079 and IS 2062 — against the actual product specification of the consignment before the CM/L is verified. Importers routinely confirm only one standard on the BIS register, then discover at port that the supplier's CM/L covers the alternate standard and does not extend to the specific relief-pattern sheet dimension being imported, triggering detention. Confirm in writing, at purchase-order stage, which IS the supplier's CM/L is licensed against and whether the licensed scope covers the exact product dimensions and pattern specifications of the consignment.
