- 2Present the SIMS automatic registration number at the bill of entry. Confirm that the consignment falls outside the two exemption categories: re-import of steel for packaging purposes and DTA-SEZ-DTA transfers (with or without value addition) are not required to register under SIMS.DGFT Notification 33/2015-20 dated 28-09-2020 · DGFT Policy Circular 38/2015-20 dated 19-01-2022
The most common error on this tariff line is misreading the 60-day application window as a filing deadline rather than an opening date: SIMS registration cannot be applied for more than 60 days before expected arrival, and the 75-day validity means a registration obtained too early may lapse before the bill of entry is filed. Vessel delays that push arrival beyond the 75-day validity require a fresh registration — there is no extension mechanism — and filing a bill of entry against an expired SIMS number triggers detention and DGFT-policy enforcement.
