Ferro-molybdenum for alloy and tool-steel additions
HSN 7202 70 00 (ferro-molybdenum) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to the Indian Standard mapped in Schedule 1 of the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 29 August 2024, per S.O. 3716(E). Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

The single most common error on this tariff line is treating the Schedule 1 deferral notification S.O. 5134(E) as a blanket suspension of the Steel and Steel Products QCO, 2024 for all ferro-alloys. The deferral applies only to specific serial numbers listed in that order; ferro-molybdenum entries not appearing in the deferral list remain subject to full CM/L and test-certificate obligations from 29 August 2024. Importers who assume deferral without verifying the serial-number mapping face consignment detention and potential disposal as scrap under section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016.
