The most common error on this tariff line is allowing the 75-day SIMS registration validity window to expire before the vessel arrives — particularly on long-haul shipments subject to schedule changes. The registration cannot be applied for more than 60 days before expected arrival, so a delayed vessel can leave the importer with an expired number and no lawful basis for filing the bill of entry, forcing a fresh registration application and attracting demurrage and ground rent. Plan the application window tightly against the confirmed bill of lading date.
