- 1Verify the country of origin before filing the bill of entry. Imports from South Korea of specified Chapter 71 items are Restricted under ITC (HS) policy condition 4 of Chapter 71; a DGFT Import Licence is required for such consignments, and filing without one renders the shipment liable to detention and re-export.ITC (HS) Import Policy, Chapter 71, Policy Condition 4
- 2Where the jewellery incorporates gold in any form above 22 carats, confirm that the importer is a nominated agency notified by the Reserve Bank of India (in the case of banks) or by DGFT (in the case of others). Non-nominated entities are prohibited from importing gold above 22 carats regardless of the product form.DGFT Notification 22/2015-20 dated 02-09-2021
The nominated-agency requirement for gold above 22 carats applies to gold 'in any form' — jewellery studded with synthetic diamonds is not exempt merely because it is a finished article rather than a bar or coin. Importers who are not nominated agencies and who source jewellery with a gold purity exceeding 22 carats risk confiscation of the consignment at the bill-of-entry stage, irrespective of the South Korea origin condition.
