HSN 7110 39 00 (Other platinum-group metals) is governed by the ITC (HS) import policy administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT): import is generally Free, but rhodium alloy containing more than 1% gold by weight is Restricted under DGFT Notification 18/2025-26 dated 17-06-2025.
- Import policy compliance from DGFT
- Composition certificate from exporter
- 1Verify the gold content by weight of any rhodium alloy before filing the bill of entry. If gold content exceeds 1% by weight, the consignment is classified as Restricted under the ITC (HS) policy and an import licence or appropriate authorisation from DGFT is required before customs clearance.DGFT Notification 18/2025-26 dated 17-06-2025
- 2For Free-category imports (rhodium alloy with 1% or less gold by weight, or other platinum-group metals under this CTI), ensure the bill of entry reflects the correct composition to avoid misdeclaration. A supplier-issued composition certificate supporting the gold-content claim should accompany the consignment.DGFT Notification 18/2025-26 dated 17-06-2025 · ITC (HS) import policy, Chapter 71
The single most common error on this tariff line is importing rhodium alloy without establishing the gold-content threshold before shipment. Because the CTI is otherwise Free, importers assume blanket free-import status and neglect to obtain a composition certificate from the overseas supplier. A consignment found to contain more than 1% gold by weight on arrival without a DGFT authorisation is liable to detention and confiscation under the ITC (HS) Restricted-import regime.
