Platinum and palladium alloys, unwrought or semi-manufactured
HSN 7110 29 00 (Other platinum group metals, unwrought or semi-manufactured) is governed by the ITC (HS) import policy administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Import under this tariff line is generally Free; however, palladium alloy containing more than 1 percent gold by weight is classified as Restricted under DGFT Notification 18/2025-26 dated 17-06-2025.

- 1Before filing the bill of entry, verify whether the consignment is a palladium alloy containing more than 1 percent gold by weight. If so, the import is Restricted and an Import Licence from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade must be obtained prior to shipment.DGFT Notification 18/2025-26 dated 17-06-2025
- 2For consignments that are Free (i.e., palladium alloys with 1 percent or less gold by weight, or other platinum group metals), confirm the material composition in the commercial invoice and bill of entry to establish that the Restricted-import condition is not triggered.DGFT Notification 18/2025-26 dated 17-06-2025 · ITC (HS) import policy, Chapter 71
The most common error on this tariff line is declaring a palladium alloy under the Free-import status without verifying the gold content by weight. If laboratory analysis or the mill certificate shows gold exceeding 1 percent by weight, the consignment is Restricted and import without a prior DGFT Import Licence attracts confiscation and monetary penalty — even if the commercial invoice describes the goods only as 'palladium alloy' with no gold reference.
