Ceramic fibres
Refractory ceramic fibres for high-temperature industrial applications
HSN 6903 90 30 (ceramic fibres) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Other refractory ceramic goods under Chapter 69 — such as formed refractory shapes or articles of siliceous fossil meals — may be classified under distinct tariff lines that carry their own compliance requirements.
The principal risk at this tariff line is misclassification: ceramic fibres used as insulating wools or blankets may attract scrutiny if customs re-characterises them as formed refractory articles or as mineral wools under Chapter 68, each of which carries a different compliance profile. Re-classification on examination triggers retrospective compliance, including detention pending resolution. Importers should document fibre composition, temperature rating, and intended industrial use before filing the bill of entry.
