Basalt tiles
Basalt tiles for refractory ceramic applications
HSN 6903 90 20 (Basalt tiles) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code, bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Other refractory ceramic goods in Chapter 69 — retorts, crucibles, and similar industrial ceramic forms — may attract IS-standard-linked compliance depending on their precise classification.
The absence of compliance at this tariff line does not extend to all ceramic goods under Chapter 69; refractory products classified to different headings or sub-headings within the chapter may carry Quality Control Order obligations. Misidentification of the product form — for instance, describing a refractory lining tile as a construction tile or vice versa — can trigger re-classification on customs examination, with detention pending the applicable regime. Verify the product specification, including its refractory grade and intended industrial use, against the customs tariff before importation.
