Women's and girls' cotton nightwear and similar articles
HSN 6208 21 90 (women's and girls' cotton nightwear and similar woven articles) is subject to the ITC (HS) import policy administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), with a mandatory Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate requirement covering the absence of prohibited hazardous dyes under General Note 10. DGFT Notification 7/2025-26 dated 17-05-2025 introduces port restrictions on imports originating from Bangladesh, subject to the exemptions stated in paragraphs 2 and 3 of that notification.
- Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate from accredited lab
- Test report from Textile Committee or CSRTI
- ITC (HS) policy compliance from DGFT
- 1Obtain a Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate (PSIC) from an accredited laboratory in the exporting country, or a valid test report from a Textile Committee or CSRTI laboratory, certifying the absence of prohibited hazardous azo dyes. Imports from EU, Serbia, Poland, Denmark, Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom are exempt from azo-dye testing only; all other origins must produce the PSIC at the bill of entry.General Note 10 of the ITC (HS) Import Policy · DGFT Public Notice 14/2023 dated 14-06-2023
- 2For consignments originating from Bangladesh, verify applicability of the port restrictions introduced under paragraph 19 of the General Notes by DGFT Notification 7/2025-26 dated 17-05-2025. Consignments that do not qualify under the exempted-goods categories in paragraphs 2 and 3 must be routed only through the ports stated in paragraph 1 of that notification.DGFT Notification 7/2025-26 dated 17-05-2025, para 1, 2, 3 and 19
The most common error on this tariff line is assuming the azo-dye testing exemption for named countries extends to all other documentary requirements — it does not. The PSIC covering composition and other prohibited substances remains mandatory regardless of country of origin. Separately, importers sourcing from Bangladesh frequently overlook the port-restriction overlay introduced by DGFT Notification 7/2025-26; routing a Bangladesh-origin consignment through a non-permitted port will trigger detention even where all other documentation is in order.
