Adhesive tape
Adhesive tape for medical or surgical use
HSN 3005 10 20 (Adhesive tape) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code, bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Other articles within Chapter 30 — particularly adhesive dressings impregnated with pharmaceutical substances or packaged as finished medical devices — may attract separate compliance under drug or medical-device regulations.
Adhesive tape imported under this tariff line must genuinely be unmedicated and not presented as a finished medical device; a product impregnated with a pharmaceutical substance, or labelled and packaged for a specific therapeutic indication, may be reclassified to a neighbouring line within Chapter 30 that carries drug or medical-device compliance. Customs reclassification on examination triggers retrospective compliance, including detention pending the relevant licence. Verify the product specification — substrate, coating, labelling, and intended use — against the customs tariff before relying on the absence of compliance.
