Lignite wax
Lignite wax, a mineral wax from brown coal
HSN 2712 90 20 (Lignite wax) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code, bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Other mineral waxes and petroleum-derived waxes within Chapter 27 — such as paraffin wax or microcrystalline petroleum wax — may be subject to distinct classification scrutiny depending on grade and intended use.
Lignite wax is one of several mineral waxes enumerated in heading 2712; the boundaries between lignite wax, ozokerite, peat wax, and synthetic wax equivalents are drawn by composition and origin, and customs examination may re-classify the consignment to a sibling line. Re-classification triggers retrospective duty recovery and, where a sibling line carries product-specific compliance, detention pending that clearance. A technical specification sheet confirming the wax's origin and composition should accompany every shipment.
