Propane
Propane, liquefied petroleum gas form
HSN 2711 12 00 (Propane) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Other petroleum gases and gaseous hydrocarbons within Chapter 27 — including butane, LPG mixtures, and natural gas — may carry distinct compliance obligations depending on form and intended use.
The absence of a compliance requirement at this tariff line does not insulate an importer from downstream obligations: propane destined for cylinder filling, industrial use, or retail distribution may attract Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation licensing under domestic handling and storage law, independent of the import classification. Customs re-classification — for example, to a blended LPG mixture tariff line — triggers retrospective compliance and potential detention. Verify the product's commercial specification, purity grade, and end-use before relying on the absence of compliance at this line.
