Coal tar pitch, other than electrode-grade or refined pitch
HSN 2708 10 90 (pitch obtained from coal tar or other mineral tars, other) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Electrode-grade or other specified pitch grades within Chapter 27, and pitch coke under the same heading, may be classified to distinct tariff lines that carry separate compliance considerations.
The absence of compliance at this tariff line does not extend to all pitch and pitch-coke products: pitch coke (separately classified within heading 2708) and certain bituminous preparations under Chapter 27 each sit on their own tariff lines, and some may carry compliance obligations. Re-classification on customs examination — based on grade, intended use, or carbon content — triggers retrospective compliance, including detention pending resolution. Verify the precise product specification against the customs tariff before relying on the absence of compliance here.
