HSN 1501 90 00 (pig fat, lard and poultry fat — residual category) is subject to a Prohibited import policy under the ITC (HS) Schedule administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). No general import is permitted under this tariff line; consignments arriving without a lawful exemption authority are liable to detention and re-export or confiscation under the Customs Act, 1962.
- Health Certificate from AQCS
- ITC (HS) policy authority from DGFT
- 1Verify that the import falls within any applicable exemption or authorisation to the Prohibited policy status before placing a purchase order. Absent a specific DGFT exemption authority, import of goods under this CTI is not permitted under the ITC (HS) import policy.ITC (HS) Import Policy — Prohibited status, Chapter 15, DGFT
- 2Where import proceeds under a valid exemption, ensure the Health Certificate (document code 6360AQ) is uploaded in e-Sanchit before the bill of entry is filed. The proper officer is directed to verify this document before granting out-of-charge.ITC (HS) policy, Chapter 15 · e-Sanchit document code 6360AQ
The most common error on this tariff line is assuming that a valid Health Certificate is sufficient to clear the consignment. The Health Certificate is a mandatory document condition, but it does not override the Prohibited import policy status; absent a DGFT exemption authority, the consignment remains unlawful to import regardless of accompanying certificates. Attempting clearance without confirming policy-level authorisation exposes the importer to confiscation and monetary penalty under the Customs Act, 1962.
