Apricots
Dried apricots for human consumption
HSN 0813 10 00 (Dried apricots) is subject to Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Import Licence clearance under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including compliance with the FSS (Import) Regulations, 2017 and FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020. Consignments are permitted only through designated food-import entry points under General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022, administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
- Import Licence from FSSAI
- Phytosanitary Certificate from exporter
- Specimen copy of label from importer
Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.
- 1Obtain a valid FSSAI Import Licence before the bill of entry is filed. Upload the licence (document code 911001), the Specimen Copy of Label (document code 0110FS), and the Phytosanitary Certificate (document code 851000) in e-Sanchit; the customs proper officer will verify these uploads before granting out-of-charge.CBIC Instruction 09/2023-Cus dated 07-03-2023 · CBIC Instruction 10/2022-Cus dated 28-06-2022 · FSSAI order dated 18-11-2022 under F.No.Import/TFM/Apex/2022-FSSAI
- 2Route the consignment only through a designated food-import entry point compliant with General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022. Arrival at a non-designated port renders the consignment liable to detention pending FSSAI clearance.General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022 · CBIC Instruction 05/2023-Cus dated 08-02-2023
- 3Ensure label compliance with the FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 before dispatch. Permissible rectifications — including per-serve % RDA contribution and expiry/best-before date — may be carried out at a customs bonded warehouse before inspection, by affixing a single non-detachable sticker next to the principal display panel, provided the manufacturer supplies the corrected information.CBIC Instruction 10/2022-Cus dated 28-06-2022 · FSSAI Letter 1828/Misc Matters/FSSAI/Imports-2021 dated 17-06-2022 · FSSAI clarification order dated 18-11-2022
The most common error on this tariff line is treating label rectification at port as a routine fallback rather than an exception. The FSSAI rectification dispensation under Regulation 6 of the FSS (Import) Regulations, 2017 and the 2018 and 2019 orders covers only specified deficiencies; deficiencies outside that list — including missing mandatory declarations — cannot be rectified at port and will result in consignment rejection or re-export. Rectification is also void unless the corrected information originates from the manufacturer itself and is verified by the authorised officer.
