Shiitake (Lentinus edodes)
Dried shiitake mushrooms (Lentinus edodes), whole or cut
HSN 0712 34 00 (Dried shiitake mushrooms) is subject to Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Import Licence requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including mandatory upload of an FSSAI Import Licence and specimen copy of label in e-Sanchit before out-of-charge. Consignments must also comply with the designated food-import entry-point restriction under General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022, administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
- Import Licence from FSSAI
- Specimen copy of label from FSSAI
- Food-entry-point declaration to CBIC
Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.
- 1Obtain a current FSSAI Import Licence and upload it in e-Sanchit under document code 911001 before filing the bill of entry. Also upload the specimen copy of label under document code 0110FS; the customs proper officer must verify both are present before granting out-of-charge.FSSAI Import Licence · document codes 911001 and 0110FS · CBIC Instruction 10/2022-Cus dated 28-06-2022
- 2Ensure the consignment is routed through a designated food-import entry point in compliance with General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022. Non-designated port arrival will prevent FSSAI clearance and exposes the consignment to detention and ground rent.General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022
- 3Where labelling deficiencies exist, rectification may be carried out at customs bonded warehouses before visual inspection by affixing a single non-detachable sticker next to the principal display panel, without altering the original label. Permitted rectifiable items include per-serve percentage contribution to recommended dietary allowance and date of expiry alongside best-before date, subject to manufacturer-provided information verified by the authorised officer.CBIC Instruction 09/2023-Cus dated 07-03-2023 · CBIC Instruction 10/2022-Cus dated 28-06-2022 · FSSAI order dated 18-11-2022 under F.No.Import/TFM/Apex/2022-FSSAI
The most common error on this tariff line is assuming that a valid FSSAI Import Licence is the sole clearance requirement and overlooking the label-compliance obligations at the port. Labelling deficiencies that fall outside the specified rectifiable categories — those listed under FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 and the FSSAI orders of 22-05-2018 and 14-01-2019 — cannot be corrected post-arrival and will result in consignment detention or re-export; importers should conduct a pre-shipment label audit against the current FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 requirements.
